A survivor has been left fighting for his life in hospital after the two-car crash at Jeir in New South Wales.

Police were called to the Barton Highway following reports of a crash involving a Ford Ranger and a Mitsubishi Triton.

Ambulance crews and a rescue helicopter rushed to the scene where they found people trapped in their vehicles following the collision.

Police confirmed that a 52-year-old woman and a 54-year-old male passenger, as well as two men in their 20s, died at the scene.

The victims have not been formally identified, a statement from NSW Police states.

NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Tracy Chapman said: ‘Two cars with multiple deceased is no doubt a scene that is horrific but ultimately our thoughts are with the family, friends and local community that will no doubt will feel the impact of these deaths.’

A male passenger of the Ford, believed to be in his 20s, was treated at the scene and later taken to the hospital.

It is understood he is in critical condition.

Survivors of the horrific crash had to be cut out from the wreckage by NSW Fire and Rescue after they were trapped in their vehicles.

Police have set up a crime scene as they launch an investigation into the crash.

Cops urge anyone with dashcam footage or any other information to contact Crime Stoppers.
